I placed an order here to try out a different local roaster and liked it so much I started a monthly subscription as soon as I was a week away from running out of that order. Amazing quality! I do local pick up so I cannot comment on the shipping process in any way, but everything else about this company is amazing. Transparency and traceability are extremely important to me and this company is doing it right!

Ron at Contrabean has been nothing short of stellar in my dealings with him. I started my coffee journey a few years ago and wanted to find some roasters locally so to enhance my fledging love for coffee. I stumbled across Contrabean while browsing the web and then forgot about it for a year, all the while drinking sub par coffee (which I now regret). Starting in 2020 I visited Contrabean's website and purchased a Hairo Siphon, burner and Aeropress. Within an hour of ordering Ron contacted me and I picked it up locally which was great! That first weekend after purchasing that gear I was blown away by the quality of the siphon and especially the Aeropress. Ron also provided me some coffee to get started, and I was seriously debating joining his coffee subscription. After a week I was hooked and joined up for 2 bags every 2 weeks. I got my mother to start weighing, grinding and brewing with the Aeropress and she's even admitted that she had no idea how low quality store bought coffee was until she dialed in her perfect cup with the Aeropress. I found that my family easily drinks 2 bags a week so this plan is perfect for me. I highly, highly recommend Contrabean's subscription service. Even during the COVID pandemic, Ron has kept me well supplied without skipping a beat. He even took careful consideration in how his customers pick up their coffee during this event so that we all remain safe. I really can't say enough about my experience with Ron and Contrabean. I look forward to picking up some extra bags around Christmas to get my extended family hooked on local deliciousness.Please support your local roasters! The love of coffee has exploded in the last decade with more ways to brew then ever before. So you owe it to yourself to reach out to Ron and take your home coffee to the next level.I recommend his Columbian if you're just starting out and don't want something too different from what you might be used to. But as you're palette expands, you'll start to really get a taste for the delicious differences between his Bean's.I personally love his Costa Rica and Ethiopian beans.Thank you Contrabean and Ron for teaching me to love coffee again !

This is an extraordinary place to get your coffee! Not only is the quality extremely high, but the beans are sourced in the most ethical way possible. To me this is an important aspect of drinking coffee - knowing where your beans come from. Over the holidays we enjoyed several varieties, Sumatran, Ethiopian, Colombian and Guatemalan, with our siphon brewer. Each pot yielded fantastic results - A testament to the farmers and the roaster. Fantastic coffee roasted in small batches by a passionate barista who's clearly spent a lot of time researching and planning his new business! We have had the pleasure to try out a couple of their coffees, and both were excellent... We found the tasting notes distinctive of each type of coffee printed on each label are are very nice touch, although admittedly our palates are not sophisticated enough to pick up on the subtle notes! The name and logo are awesome too!

I highly recommend the Kenya Nyeri! The tasting notes were spot on and I discovered some of my own that weren't listed which is always a good thing. Very reasonably priced for the quality and the information on the bag is just the cherry on top.Will be buying again!

My partner and I started the monthly subscription in January 2022, so we've so far received 4 different bags of coffee. I've honestly been going to bed earlier because I'm excited to wake up and drink excessive amounts of Contrabean in the morning! The power of great beans!I became really interested in single origin coffees quite recently when I, like many people, discovered James Hoffman's YouTube channel. Ron's subscription has been like a crash course in the big fragrant beautiful world of coffee. This month's beans are a beautifully rich and balanced Colombian and my personal favourite so far, a Guatemalan natural process coffee. It's like drinking a blueberry dessert! Who knew there was this much variation possible within a black cup of Joe. Very impressed and excited for next month :) highly recommend!

We ordered coffee from Contrabean ahead of Christmas to make for some great (and delicious smelling) stocking stuffers and gifts. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quick and frequent communication advising me of the status of my order. When the coffee arrived, We went straight to our grinder and made ourselves a batch. It was so good that let's just say that someone didn't get their gift because we kept an extra bag for ourselves! Thanks Contrabean!

I've been a subscriber with Contrabean for a few years now and look forward to every bag. The quality is top-tier and the price for a subscription service is extremely reasonable, especially if you're able to pick up locally. The typical roast profile I receive works well for folks who lean towards espresso but also enjoy pour-overs.I've spent time with several other Canadian & US coffee subscription services (Social Coffee, Structure, Counter Culture), but for my money Contrabean surpasses them all for quality and curated variety. Give them a try.

I purchased both the Nicaraguan decaf and the Kenyan peaberry and both were fantastic in pour over and as Japanese iced coffees.I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of roast date as it was a home business but the peaberry was roasted the day before.Pick up was easy and contact free in these COVID times.Would definitely purchase from them again.
